Copper Leaf is valued by artists and gilders for its rich, warm tone and bold metallic character, making it a popular choice for decorative and fine art applications. Made from pure copper, it offers a distinctive earthy glow that brings depth and warmth to a wide range of surfaces.

Copper is a highly reactive metal known for its dynamic aging process. While it begins with a bright, reflective copper finish, it will naturally oxidize over time, developing deeper brown tones and eventually a greenish patina if left unsealed, an effect that can be either embraced or controlled depending on the desired outcome.

Sepp Leaf Products offers Copper Leaf in standard book packaging measuring 5-1/2 inches × 5-1/2 inches (14 cm × 14 cm). Each book contains individual leaves separated by tissue paper, allowing for precise handling and application using traditional gilding tools and techniques. Copper leaf is also available in roll form for efficient application on large, flat surfaces, allowing for faster coverage and consistent results.

For applications requiring greater ease of handling, Patent (transfer) Copper Leaf is also available. In this format, each leaf is lightly adhered to a backing paper, allowing for more controlled placement, especially beneficial for beginners, large-scale surfaces, or projects where added stability is needed during application.

Because of its reactive nature, copper leaf is best suited for interior applications unless properly sealed and maintained. Without protection, it will tarnish and continue to oxidize when exposed to air and environmental conditions. To preserve its original color and finish, a suitable protective topcoat must be applied after the leaf has fully set and cured.

Copper Leaf is ideal for:

• Decorative and interior finishes

• Signage and lettering

• Furniture and cabinetry

• Murals and large-scale artwork

• Mixed-media and contemporary designs

• Antiqued and patinated effects

Copper leaf should be handled with clean, dry tools to prevent surface contamination, which may affect the final appearance once sealed. Proper storage in a dry, stable environment will help maintain the quality of the leaf prior to use.

When properly applied and sealed, or intentionally allowed to patinate, Copper Leaf offers a bold, evolving metallic finish that adds warmth, character, and visual richness to both traditional and contemporary work.
