Backup Paint
Back-up paint is a specially formulated enamel used as a protective backing layer for gilded glass. Applied over gold or silver leaf during reverse glass gilding, this paint helps secure the leaf to the glass while protecting it from damage and environmental exposure. It also enhances the visual depth and opacity of the gilded design when viewed from the front.
Sepp Leaf Products offers Gilders Back-Up Paint packaged in a thick silk-screening consistency, suitable for both screen printing and brushing. When brushing is preferred, the paint may be thinned with turpentine or mineral spirits to achieve the desired working viscosity. With an approximate 15-minute dry time, it provides reliable coverage and protection for reverse glass gilding projects.
Available colors include Black, Silver, and Ochre, each designed to complement different types of metal leaf and visual effects in glass gilding applications.
